BASSWOOD
Hull’s
basswood is lightweight and has a clean grain and that
makes it a versatile and popular model-building
material. Harder than balsa wood, it can be cut to
extremely close tolerances while maintaining its
structural integrity and the ability to hold fine
detail. Our basswood machines well and is easy to work
with hand tools, making it a premier carving wood. It
nails, screws, and glues fairly well and can be sanded,
stained, and polished to a good smooth finish. It dries
fairly rapidly with little distortion or degradation and
has good dimensional stability once dry. The drying
technology used in its manufacture assures wood that is
straight and flat. The wood is light and soft with
generally poor steam bending properties. Available in
wood strips, sheets, structural shapes, siding, and
sheathing materials that are 24" long. Sold
individually, so that you may purchase the exact amounts
you need.
